Dr. Jesús Barreto Abrams is a licensed psychologist and attending clinician at UCLA’s Conservatorship Assessment Training (CAT) Program. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Gallaudet University in 2020, specializing in working with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals across the lifespan. Dr. Barreto Abrams completed an APA-accredited internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in lifespan cultural neuropsychology at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior.
In the area of forensic psychology, Dr. Barreto Abrams completed predoctoral training in forensic and correctional psychology through various practica. He further advanced his postdoctoral education by earning a professional certificate in forensic psychology from San Diego State University in 2024, where he honed his skills in mental health and criminal behavior assessment, forensic evaluations, forensic report writing, and expert testimony. His forensic interests lie at the intersection of neuropsychological conditions (e.g., intellectual developmental disorders, dementia, traumatic brain injuries) and criminal behavior, competency to stand trial, and conservatorship evaluations.
Dr. Barreto Abrams has taught over 50 classes in psychology and sign language interpretation, and he continues to work as a nationally certified sign language interpreter.
