Mission
Empower Emerging Clinicians
- Equip postdoctoral fellows with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the growing and unique needs of the justice-involved population.
Provide Training Opportunities for Legal Professionals
- Our faculty and fellows offer training and consultation to legal professionals on recognizing and addressing intellectual, cognitive, and psychiatric concerns in justice-involved individuals.
- Collaborations include working with various stakeholders in the medico-legal system, such as public defenders, district attorneys, probation departments, and state correctional facilities.
Community Outreach and Research
- Actively engage in community outreach efforts.
- Conduct research focused on program outcomes and policy interventions that promote justice and equitable practices within the legal system.

Formal Postdoctoral Fellowship

Forensic Fellowship Seminar Series
Specialized seminar series focused on forensic neuropsychology.

Didactic Participation
Aside from forensic neuropsychology seminar opportunities, fellows engage in multiple educational offerings including the clinical neuropsychology didactic program, the HNCE Colloquium, and related journal clubs.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Opportunities for collaboration with professionals across the UCLA system, including the Law School, Department of Social Work, and the Department of Psychiatry’s Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Key Features
Criminal Forensic Focus
Major emphasis on individuals currently detained in juvenile or adult facilities, on parole or probation, as well as those involved in immigration or asylum proceedings.
Conservatorship Assessment Team (CAT) Focus
Minor emphasis on conducting conservatorship evaluations at correctional facilities, attending conservatorship hearings, and providing educational presentations to community partners.
Training Across the Lifespan
Both juvenile and adult populations are served in the major and minor focuses.
Additional Training Opportunities
Additional opportunities outside of the JCN may be considered (e.g., outpatient medical, bilingual assessment, pre/post-surgery-related evaluations), subject to the fellow’s academic standing and overall program availability. Approval is at the discretion of the fellow’s primary preceptor.
